Unexpected Trail

I found this trail while visiting the New Mexico Museum Of Space History.  A trailhead (of what I assume is a spur) is located near the parking lot and it has very minimal information about the trail.  I wasn't sure where the trail went or how far, so I followed it for about 2.3 miles up into the Lincoln National Forest (somewhat of a misnomer in this area since it's a desert-like environment).  The trail kept going up into the mountains, but I had to turn around because the sun was setting and I didn't want to come back in the dark.  If I had more time and was better prepared, I would have liked to spend an entire day to see where the trail went.  In reviewing my track file, I see I hiked most of the trail up, but did not hike the section down to the main road where I assume the main trailhead is.
