Coppertone and I did this trail and not expecting things to be much different than they were in nearby Redood Regional Park. Wrong. Not a Redwood in sight and the feel the trails are very different. The lack of bikes and most of the trail lacking in dog walkers also means there are fewer people here, bumping up the solitude a bit. It's still popular enough with hikers and for good reason.
Being new to the area, the interpretive guide of plants proved to be quite useful. The 17 stations provide information on a number of Fern, Manzanita and other varieties.
We found ourselves in a couple of occasions giving map advice to a couple of ladies who seemed to have difficulty keeping to their route. In actuality, the trail makers throughout the park are quite good and should help keep you on course. We did miss one interpretive guide marker, though we can't be certain if this is because it was gone or if we just missed it.
In addition to the Huckleberry Loop, we also hiked the spur to the Pinehurst Road trailhead. Several trees have fallen across the path on this segment, though none prevented us from continuing onward.
