More Info

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is one of the few public gardens located right on the ocean's shore. Along the seashore one can spot Grey Whales as they migrate along the coast. In 47 acres it packs in a large number of plants from around the world but also manages to provide a couple miles of trails for those looking to get in a good walk.

Rhododendrons mostly originated in central Asia but are the garden's signature plant and a large number of varieties can be found here. Blooms typically peak between April and mid-May but we've found a few early bloomers showing off in February.

There are two classes of walking paths at the garden. The main thoroughfares are wider and sometimes paved, providing quicker access to various parts of the garden. Such routes, such as the South and North Trails can be used to get the coastal bluffs in short order.

The majority of the trail distance to be found here is the web of short paths that form a complex matrix between various plantings. Let your mind wander and follow your whim without concern about your path or direction. You'll find your way out eventually.
